Healthy voyagers

Active VoyagerChildren are given ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, as we are fortunate enough to have a spacious, natural outdoor play area. Not only does this encourage development of fine motor skills, it also instils a love of nature and the outdoors within children.

We believe that activity and a balanced diet is essential to a child’s wellbeing, which is why our program is informed by the principles of the Munch and Move NSW Health Initiative. Children are provided with ample opportunity to engage in both structured and unstructured outdoor play, enhancing their fitness and supporting the development of fine and gross motor skills. We also regularly host external programs, such as dance classes and the Ready Steady Go multi-sport program. There’s never a dull moment at Little Voyagers!

Each age group is guided towards appropriate activities which will support the development of fine and gross motor skills and encourage physical activity and movement. Some popular daily play activities include:

  • Ball games
  • Skipping, running and jumping
  • Sand play
  • Climbing
  • Creative play using cones, hoops, balls, ropes and other materials
  • Building tunnels
  • Water play
  • Hide and seek

Our Healthy Voyagers program encourages and supports the physical abilities of every child, giving them a strong foundation and interest in pursuing future sporting opportunities. They also come to recognise their role within a team and the importance of daily activity in maintaining good health.

Nutrition

  • Nutritious meals freshly prepared on-site
  • We cater to children’s allergies/intolerances
  • Munch and Move Program
  • Growing fresh herbs and vegetables and eating the produce
  • Cooking classes

These physical, social and health foundations are further supported by our daily meal plans which are freshly prepared and highly nutritious. Children are taught the importance of healthy eating and good dietary habits, and an extensive menu of meals and snacks is prepared fresh on site daily. We recognise that many children have allergies or intolerances to certain foods, and our team cater to these needs daily.

Further supporting education and nutrition, children are given the opportunity to participate in growing their own herbs and vegetables within our spacious garden beds. Participating in the growing process from sowing the seed to plant maturity is an immensely rewarding learning experience. All herbs and vegetables grown on site are eaten fresh and utilised within simple, age-appropriate recipes. Cooking classes are held regularly to stimulate interest, encourage the sampling of new foods and promote healthy eating habits which will last a lifetime.

Physically Active, Nutritionally InformedIn addition to promoting physical activity and providing nutritious meals, our educators also hold discussions regarding the food pyramid and the role it plays in growth, physical development and overall wellbeing. A healthy lifestyle is key to achieving a healthy body and healthy mind. Through various learning experiences, Healthy Voyagers discover the importance of nutrition, personal hygiene, physical activity and positive social relationships. This in turn improves concentration, motivation and mood making for a highly rewarding play and learning experience.
